Overview

• Both the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings used runes in religion for casting spells, and they usually engraved them on wood or stone.

• The Anglo-Saxon runes pack is a useful resource for teachers bringing history lessons to life. Constructed from wood, this set includes thirty-two wooden runes, a storage bag, and a help sheet explaining what each symbol represented. This encourages historical enquiry and understanding of ancient uses.

• Incorporate this resource into the Key Stage 2 history curriculum to enhance lessons on the Viking and Anglo-Saxon. They provide a way to explore Anglo-Saxon laws and justice, making abstract concepts more accessible to children.

• This pack supports lessons on Britain’s settlement by Anglo-Saxons and Scots, the Roman withdrawal from Britain, and Christian conversion.
