TTS Rugged Robot Treasure Island Mat

Take Rugged Robot on an adventure using the Treasure Island mat.

Overview

Measuring 120 x 120 cm, this mat allows multiple robots and users to engage simultaneously, enhancing collaborative learning.

Designed to promote engaging and hands-on learning, the Treasure Island mat introduces children to the fundamentals of coding and geographical orientation. By navigating robots across the themed area, children practice following directions, using compass points, and executing simple programs.

Aligned with Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 computing curriculums, the mat enables children to craft, test, and refine programs that fulfil specific functions. This hands-on approach supports differentiated learning styles and encourages problem-solving among young coders.
Beyond computing, the thematic elements of treasure and island exploration on the island mat integrate seamlessly with geographical learning objectives. Children are encouraged to use directional language and understand spatial concepts, which are crucial for grasping more complex geographical and computational ideas in the future.

Supports the National Curriculum

Computing, Key Stage 1

Create and debug simple programs.

Computing, Key Stage 2

Design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems and solve problems by decomposing them into smaller parts.

Geography, Key Stage 1, Geographical Skills & Fieldwork

Use simple compass directions and locational and directional language, to describe the location of features and routes on a map.
